Sindhu Menon was born in Bangalore to a Keralite family. Sindhu Menon is a Bharathnatyam dancer since from her childhood and during school days she used to participate in dance competitions. In one such competition where 25 other schools took part, she got the 1st prize. One of the judges there, noticed the inherent talent and introduced her to a Kannada film.

Sindhu Menon is a name well known among all four South Indian filmdom. Sindhu Menon created a niche for herself in Kannada film industry despite of tough competition among young actresses. She entered Kannada filmdom as child actress though it was highly unexpected she says. Sindhu Menon has more than 25 Kannada films in her credit. Sindhu Menon acted in other South Indian languages including Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. Film Huliya where she acted as a child actress received a lot of appreciation. She baged Tamilnadu and Telugu Academy award for Telugu film 'Trinetra'.

She was brought up in Bangalore. Even as a school girl, she used to be studies-conscious. Her entry into film industry is an accident when she faced the camera as a hyperactive child artiste in the film Rashmi. That time she was in UKG. Her debut film in tollywood was Srihari’s movie Bhadrachalam.

Sindhu who got name and fame in her very young age wants to go beyond silver screen. She intend to help people wants to learn but can't afford costly education. She likes kids and hence will be starting a play home during coming June. One more dream of hers is a film production. By the end of next year she aim to produce a female oriented film where she will be the lead. Sindhu is very choosy when it comes to selecting her roles. She rejected more than 30 Kannada films so far, as the story and scripts were not upto the mark. Right now two Malayalam films are in her hand. We wish this charming young talent goodluck in all her ventures and career.

Bharatnatyam(also spelled Bharathanatyam, Bharatnatyam or Bharata Natyam), as Balasaraswati puts it, is an artistic yoga (natya yoga), for revealing the spiritual through the corporeal. It is the most widely practised of Indian classical dances in South India, and has its origin in Tamil Nadu. It is the most ancient of all the classical dance forms in India, which are based on Natya Shastra, the Bible of the classical Indian dance. The term "Bharatnatyam" was introduced in the mid-thirties by E. Krishna Iyer and later spread by Rukminidevi Arundale, and is thought to derive from the four syllables, BHAva(expression)RAga (music)TAla(rhythm) NATYAM.

Bharatanatyam is thought to have been created by Bharata Muni, a Hindu sage, who wrote the Natya Shastra, the most important ancient treatise on classical Indian dance. It is also called the fifth Veda in reference to the foundation of Hindu religion and philosophy, from which sprang the related South Indian musical tradition of Carnatic music. However, there are references to Rishi Agastya teaching his disciples a different form of sacred dance than the one taught by Bharata Muni.

In ancient times it was performed as dasiattam by mandir (Hindu temple) Devadasis. Many of the ancient sculptures in Hindu temples are based on Bharata Natyam dance postures. In fact, it is the celestial dancers, apsarases, who are depicted in many scriptures dancing the heavenly version of what is known on earth as Bharatanatyam.
