hriya is a young actress who has done several Tamil and Telugu movies and made a splash into Bollywood with 2007s Awarapan in which she was paired opposite Emraan Hashmi as his true love. Her innocence and restrained performance won her rave reviews. She also made waves with her performance in Sivaji opposite veteran superstar Rajnikant in 2006.

Shriya, which means Goddess Lakshmi, was born and brough up in Haridwar and has recently moved to Lokhandwala, Mumbai where she stays with her parents. She has one elder brother who got married recently. Her mother is a chemistry teacher and her father works at Bharat heavy Metal Works. Since Hindi is her mother tongue, she found it hard to learn Tamil and Telugu.

Shriya was born in Dehradun on the 11th of September 1982. Her mother is Neeraja, a school teacher and her father is Pushpendra Saran, working with Bharat Heavy Metal Works. She has an older brother Abhiroop.Shriya grew up in Ranipur. She studied at the Delhi Public School and acquired a B.A in Literature from Lady Sri Ram College. She is also a Kathak dancer and trained under Shobha Narayan.
She started out as a model, appearing in several commercials like Brookbond, Red Label, Lux and Head & Shoulders. She was also a part of music videos like Tirakthi Kyun Hawa by Reenu Nathan which was shot in Banaras
Shriya broke into movies with a Telugu movie Ishtam in 2001. Though the movie was not a success, the industry noticed her. This was followed by the 2002 film Santosham with Nagarjuna, which did extremely well. The other two films released the same year Nuvve Nuvve and Chennakeshava Reddy also did well. She got the opportunity to work with some of the major stars and came out with several hits like Tagore (2003) and Chatrapati (2005).
Her Tamil films like Ennaku 20 Unnaku 18 in 2003, Mazhai in 2005 were good performers at the box office. In 2007, she starred in Azhagiya Tamil Magan and she was cast opposite Rajnikanth in Shivaji: The Boss that was one of the biggest films ever made in India

Shriya Saran is well known for her charity work. She describes herself as someone used to "sharing time and resources with the underprivileged since childhood." She says that "celebrities can show the way by sensitising people to social issues, campaigning for causes or being part of fund-raisers." Her family has always encouraged her to think of the needy.
Saran is a brand ambassador for the Naandi Foundation, and for the Save A Child's Heart Foundation (SACH), which works for the benefit of poor children and people affected by natural calamities. She helps finance a Prevention of Aids foundation. In 2009, Saran joined with other eminent personalities to promote 'The Joy of Giving Week', to encourage people from all walks of life to engage in acts of giving. She regularly participates in carnivals and campaigns that associate with child benefits. She is associated with animal welfare and the Blue Cross of India She is also associated with an NGO called World Vision that finds parents for deprived kids, and works for Apollo’s RDF to raise funds for underprivileged children.
Saran is a long time patron for the blind. In 2011, she opened a spa which exclusively employs the visually challenged. It is called Shree Spa, and is located in Mumbai. Saran has said "When I studied in DPS Mathura Road in Delhi, there was a school for blind exactly opposite to our school. I used to go there every week and spend time seeing how these students played cricket and did other things normally. That is what inspired me to do something for these people".
In January 2008, Saran was the subject of a controversy, when a Hindu organisation in Chennai lodged a police complaint against Saran, objecting to the outfit worn by her during the 175th day celebration of her film, Sivaji: The Boss. In a complaint, the Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) alleged that Shriya's outfit had "offended Hindu culture". Shriya publicly apologised to Tamils and Hindus, saying it was a mistake, and that she had "great respect for the tradition and culture of Tamil Nadu I was shooting for a Hindi film in Thanjavur. I came to the function directly from the shooting, I was unaware of the repercussions because of the attire I wore during the function."Saran is single. According to media reports, she has been linked with several gentlemen, some for long periods of time.She is reluctant to talk about this aspect of her personal life.
On working in several of the different regional film industries she has stated, "I don’t consider Kollywood or Bollywood as separate entities. For me, there’s only a single category, the Indian film industry, which is extremely rich owing to its diverse genres and languages.
