Nayantara was born as Diana Mariam Kurien on 18th November 1984 in Thiruvalla, Kerala, India. Her father worked in the Air Force, so the family moved frequently. She did her twelfth grade at Balikamadom High School in Thiruvalla and graduated in English Literature from Marthoma College, Thiruvalla
 

Winning the first runner up spot in the Best Model of Kerala contest in 2002 was a turning point for Nayantara. This helped her get offers to do commercials.
 

Nayantara was involved with her co-star from Vallavan, Silambarasan though they broke offlater. 

At just the age of 21 years, Keralite Nayanthara has acquired the reputation of acting opposite male actors who are almost twice as old. She starred in her first Malyalam film opposite Jayaram, and then in "Chandramukhi" with renowned Indian actor Rajnikanth, then with other aging actors like Sarath Kumar, Mohanlal, and Mammotty. Now she has been cast to play the lead role in a much younger Simbu's directorial debult, in which he also has the lead role. Nayanthara and Simbu's intimate life-sized posters created shock waves in Chennai, which were subsequently pulled down by the police. Similar excitement resulted when glamorous life-sized posters were posted all over Chennai - this time with her co-star S.J. Surya. With her attractive looks and talent, it is no wonder that she is one of the most popular actresses in the Tamil film industry.

Nayantara is an actress who has worked in Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil movies, who lets her good looks take precedence over acting as she is mostly seen in glitzy roles.. 

When lovers break up, they usually drown in misery for a while. But it seems to be different in the case of Simbu and Nayantara.

Starred in Vallavan, Simbu and Nayantara fell deeply in love and there was even talk of a wedding. But now, things have changed and they have gone their separate ways. But instead of wallowing in misery, they are getting on with life. Is it good sign?

During  Nayantara’s birthday, she was shooting in Hyderabad for a Telugu film and decided to celebrate. Instead of buying the usual small cake, she got one that was 20kgs!

By way of explanation she says happily, “My breaking off with Simbu is the best birthday gift for me. I will put my relationship with him behind me as a bad dream and start a new life. That’s why I want to celebrate grandly.”

They say ‘love never ends’ but it doesn’t hold true for tinsel town’s most adorable lovebirds Silambarasan and Nayantara. It looked as though they couldn’t keep their eyes off each other till recently. They looked stunning together in the recently released film ‘Vallavan’, which has steamy lip-locking scenes. But this love story is a passé now. Simbu’s heart has broken into pieces following Nayantara’s announcement that they have parted.

Simbu, just couldn’t believe himself when he learned that his girl has call it quit, as he never thought that it would end this way. “I never expected this from her, as I loved her deeply. It was much more than a shock to me. Actually it was like being hit by a thunderbolt. My feeling for Nayan was genuine,” said the broken-hearted actor cum director.

He just couldn’t come to terms the cruel reality. However, he is ready to leave it behind and move on in life. “There is no reason for this break-up. Anyway I am slowly reconciling myself to life without Nayantara. She could have forgotten about how she cried and held me saying she could not live without me. But I will never forget it as long as I live.  She will not be there with me any longer but God is there for me! I have to take it in my stride and move on. It’s fine with me though I don’t want to issue any statement and hurt her by hitting back,” he said.

“May she be happy wherever she is,” said Simbu emotionally and struck by grief, could speak no further. Then Simbu erased Nayantara‘s number from his cell phone.

Prabhu Deva and Nayantara 

After staying mum for a long time about his relationship with actress Nayantara, choreographer-actor-turned-director Prabhu Deva finally confessed before the media that he is love with Nayantara and getting married to her very soon. Prabhu Deva broke his silence during the shooting of Santosh Sivan's Urumi.

"Yes, I am in love with Nayantara. We will marry soon. I am not comfortable in divulging the details of my personal life in front of the media and that's the reason for my silence about the affair," he was quoted as saying.

Sources close to Nayantara have already hinted clearly that after marriage, Nayan will quit films and turn housewife. Prabhu Deva also expressed the same intentions during the conversation. He said that despite her glamorous image on screen, Nayantara is a simple girl and a home bird and there is no point in both of them staying busy resulting in less time for each other. Rumours are rife that the couple will get married before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Prabhu Deva and his wife Ramlath have agreed to a mutual divorce with Ramlath accepting the financial deal offered by her husband. They are supposed to move the court for a speedy divorce.

2003 Sathyan Anthikkad gave Nayantara her first break in movies by casting her in the Malayalam movie Manassinakkare with Jayaram.

2004 She worked with Mohanlal in Fazil’s Vismayathumbathu and in Shaji Kailas’ Natturajavu. 

2005 She was seen in Tamil and Malayalam like Chandramukhi with Rajnikanth and as Chitra in Ghajini opposite Surya and Asin. Ayya was a good performer at the box office.

2006 She appeared in Telugu movies like Lakshmi and Boss, as well as Tamil movies like Vallavan.

2007 Her success was waning until Vishnuvardhan’s Billa released and became a hit. She was also seen in a cameo in Sivaji: The Boss.

2008 In Yaaradi Nee Mohini, she played the lead with Dhanush and in Kuselan she played herself. Aegan, which was a remake of Main Hoon Na saw her as a teacher.

2009 In Prabhu Deva’s Villu she played the protagonist’s love interest. Her next release is a Malayalam movie Bodyguard and a Tamil movie Aadhavan with Surya.
