She has a degree in Journalism from Manipal Institute of Communication. She showcased her acting skills in the movie Aakasha Gopuram with Mohanlal, directed by national award winning director K. P. Kumaran. She quotes "It happened very strangely and was almost like destiny. I was in the middle of my 12th exams when I had appeared on the cover of a tourism book. Mohanlal saw the picture and I got a call from the film's director. He talked to me and was convinced I was the one for the role. Everything happened very quickly.

After completing her studies she got interested to be a filmmaker to express her ideas. So she had a plan to do a course in cinematography at FTI Pune but it didnt happen. Earlier, Nithaya menon appeared on screen as child artist in the movie Hanuman when she was eight years old. Then she got a chance to pair with Mohanlal in 2008 for 'Aakasha Gopuram', directed by KP Kumaran. Its an off beat film, nithya performed well & many were impressed by the performance. She also got nominated for a best supporting actress award category in 57th Filmfare Awards.

In 2011, her romantic comedy film Ala Modalaindi directed by Nandini Reddy was released & becomes hit, Then she comes with Santhosh sivan's Urumi & her next release is '180' which is a billingual tamil telugu film has Siddharth & Priya Anand alongside, directed by Jayendra. She also has many films in queue to release in that some are, Veppam in tamil/telugu & Jogayya in Kannada are much expected ones.
